I. Industry Background:

1. What is an Arc?

An arc is a gas discharge phenomenon, an instantaneous spark produced when current passes through certain insulating media (such as air).

An arc is a self-sustaining gas conduction (electrical conduction in ionized gas), with most of its charge carriers being electrons produced by

primary electron emission.

Due to primary electron emission (thermal ion emission, field emission or photoemission) on the metal surface of the contacts,

electrons escape. Gas atoms or molecules in the gap will be ionized (collision ionization, photoionization and thermal ionization)

to produce electrons and ions. Additionally, the bombardment of the emission surface by electrons or ions can cause secondary electron

emission. When the ion concentration in the gap is large enough, the gap is electrically broken down and an arc occurs.

2. Hazards of Arcs:

In switch electronic devices, although the switch contacts have separated, as long as there is an arc between the contacts, the circuit is

not truly disconnected and current still exists until the arc is completely extinguished. The presence of an arc prolongs the time it takes

for the switch device to disconnect the faulty circuit, which can easily cause short-circuit faults in equipment and even damage the equipment.

The high temperature of the arc may burn electrical contacts and other components around the contacts.

If a battery or battery pack has a leakage problem, the discharge through the air or medium will produce an arc, which can generate intense

light and heat, potentially causing fire, explosion and other safety issues.

II. Industry Pain Points:

During the insulation performance test of battery blue film, a special kind of tiny damage may occur to the blue film in the production process.

The blue film is not completely broken and does not expose the metal casing. When a high-voltage test is conducted using a withstand

voltage tester, the damaged area of the blue film gets punctured and charred, generating an arc. However, this arc forms a relatively stable

current value, which cannot be detected merely by the upper and lower limits of the withstand voltage tester. Therefore, a more precise and

efficient arc detection function is required.

III. Solution:

The AC/DC withstand voltage and insulation tester developed by Ruijie Intelligent is a specialized testing device for the withstand voltage

and insulation performance of new energy batteries and related products. It is mainly used in performance testing by battery and battery

accessory manufacturers. This tester can accurately detect the withstand voltage and insulation performance of batteries and battery

accessories, and it also has a precise and high-speed arc detection function. It responds quickly, with no missed or false judgments,

and can stop the test immediately upon arc generation to protect the tested items and the equipment from damage.
